Former Coyote selected in MLB Draft

12-Tanner DriskellThe Washington Nationals selected former Weatherford College baseball player Tanner Driskill in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday.

Driskill, the 281st overall pick, played his junior and senior seasons at Lamar University after two years at WC. The Round Rock native had a 3.45 ERA with 114 strikeouts and 37 walks in two years at Lamar. He had a 10-8 record with eight career saves.

He pitched for Coach Jeff Lightfoot’s Coyotes in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

“I am excited for Tanner and his family,” Lightfoot said. “He has gone out and earned this opportunity by being patient and working his tail off.

Tanner did a great job for two years for us here at WC . . . always a competitor and wasn’t afraid to work. It would not surprise me to see him in the big leagues someday. We wish him the best!”

Driskill is the 37th former or current Coyote to be drafted since WC’s baseball program began in 2003.
