WC sends Two to Rodeo Nationals

Weatherford College’s Garrett Jacobs and Brogan Macy have qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo, giving WC
its 13th consecutive year with CNFR qualifiers. The event is scheduled for June 9-17 in Casper, Wyoming.

4 24 17 CNFR qualifiers Jacobs Macy EmmonsThe athletes qualified by finishing in the top three of their respective Southwest Region event standings after 10 regular season rodeos. The regular season culminated at the Tarleton State University Rodeo in Stephenville on Saturday.

Jacobs, a freshman tie down roper from Lemitar, New Mexico, made a clutch run in the final round Saturday to move into the top three and on to the CNFR.

Jacobs won the 2015 New Mexico steer wrestling state championship and was a three-time high school finals qualifier.

Macy is the second barrel racer in WC history to qualify for the CNFR (Amber Porter, 2005). The freshman from Post finished third in the region.

Brogan is a four-time barrel racing state qualifier, and her brother, Aaron, was a member of the first full WC team to qualify for the CNFR in 2014.

The WC women’s team finished fourth in the region for the season; the men’s team finished 10th.

Weatherford’s Kelsey Espenson finished 6th in the region in barrel racing; Cheyenne Jinks was 10th.

Martha Angelone was sixth in breakaway roping.

For the men, Jace Davis ended up No. 6 among team roping heelers. Chase Chambers was eighth for headers.
