The Coyotes (32-18 overall, 18-10 in Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play) have won seven of their last eight conference games.
Weatherford is in third place in the conference, and the top four teams in the NTJCAC advance to the regional tournament beginning May 14. WC has only one four-game series remaining in the regular season; against North Central Texas College.
The Coyotes fell behind 7-2 by the top of the fifth inning of game one when a thunderstorm stopped play. Three hours later, the game resumed, and the Coyotes quickly answered with seven runs over the next two innings.
Brett Brown was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Noah Boughton was 2-for-4 with one run and three RBI.
Pitchers Paul Bonzagni and Matthew Hickey combined to keep Vernon off the scoreboard in game two. Bonzagni allowed two hits over four innings with three walks and four strikeouts. Hickey allowed three hits over five with one walk and six strikeouts.
Brenden Dixon hit a home run, Austin Green was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Jacob Guerrero was 2-for-4.
The Coyotes play at home for the last time this season on Saturday, May 8. The doubleheader against NCTC begins at 2 p.m.
