WC splits doubleheader, takes four-game series
Russo's gem leads Coyotes to victory
The No. 1 ranked Weatherford College baseball team took a 6-3 loss from North Central Texas College, but returned the favor in the late game, winning 12-0 to take the conference opening series three games to four.
In the first game of Sunday's doubleheader at Roger Williams Ballpark, the Coyotes got within one run in the bottom of the sixth, 4-3 in favor of the visiting Lions. A late push in the seventh, however, ultimately led to the NCTC win.
In the second game, going 8-0 in the second inning, the Coyotes solidified their win with three more runs in the third and one more in the fifth before the run rule ended the game.
Six Coyotes turned in RBIs. Jax Marshall and Trey Butler each had one, Trace Mazon and JC Davis both had two, with Uriah Walters and Manuel Salas on top with three each.
Right-handed pitcher Dylan Russo walked off the mound with four strikeouts in five innings, only allowing just one hit.
The Coyotes will be at home Wednesday, March 12, to face Temple College in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
