WC baseball remains No. 1, softball moves to No. 16
Coyotes continue to climb in national rankings
The Weatherford College baseball team held on to its No. 1 position in the Division I national poll released on Monday by the National Junior College Athletic Association. The WC softball team moved up three spots to No. 16 in the country.
Coyote baseball (18-3 overall, 3-1 conference) received seven first place votes in the poll. The three remaining first place votes went to No. 2 College of Southern Nevada (27-4). WC received 198 points in the voting compared to CSN's 194.
In baseball's Region V, Midland dropped one spot to No. 11. McLennan is No. 13 this week, down from No. 5 after two losses to Temple in the conference opener. El Paso is up one spot to No. 21.
The WC softball team (19-3, 3-1) climbed to No. 16 after scoring 29 runs in a four-game series with North Central Texas College. The Coyotes won three of four in the series, which was the first in conference play.
Other Region V teams in the softball poll include No. 3 McLennan, No. 5 Grayson, No. 8 Odessa, and No. 13 Temple.
The WC baseball team will host Temple on Wednesday, March 12, in a noon doubleheader at Williams Ballpark.
The softball team will travel to Temple on Wednesday and then host the Leopards on Saturday, March 15, in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
