WC and Temple split doubleheader
Mazon, Salas, and Ashlock each deliver a home run
Weatherford College and Temple College split a baseball doubleheader at Roger Williams Ballpark on Wednesday.
The No. 1 Coyotes' record moved to 19-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The two teams will finish the four-game series in Temple on Saturday.
Temple came out swinging in the first game. After beating No. 5 McLennan in three out of four the previous week, the Leopards were red hot, putting up six runs in the first three innings against WC. The dam broke in the top of the sixth when Temple scored six runs, ending the game with a 12-1 score.
Game two was a different story. WC won 9-1, thanks in part to three home runs (Trace Mazon, Manuel Salas and Mason Ashlock). Salas was 3-for-5 with two RBI and three hits.
J.C. Davis and Blake Martinez also turned in three hits apiece. Davis was 3-for-5 with two RBI, and Martinez was 3-for-4.
Noah Bentley earned the game two win, scattering five hits over five and one-third innings, with one run, two walks and seven strikeouts.
The Coyotes put the game away with a five-run seventh inning, ending the game on the run-rule.
After the trip to Temple on Saturday, the Coyotes will return to Williams Ballpark on Wednesday, March 19, in a new series against Cisco College. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
