WC splits baseball series with Grayson
Coyotes tied for lead in NTJCAC
The Weatherford College baseball team is back in a tie with Grayson College atop of the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference standings.
Grayson won both games of a Saturday doubleheader in Denison, 3-2 and 12-11. That put the No. 1 Coyotes (27-7 overall, 11-5 NTJCAC) in a tie with the Vikings (18-15, 11-5) for first place in the NTJCAC with McLennan a half game behind.
Grayson and Weatherford split the four-game series 2-2 with the Coyotes winning both games in Weatherford Wednesday and Grayson taking Saturday's games.
Saturday's first game was a pitcher's duel. Grayson's Braydon Risley finished with 12 strikeouts, with six hits over the games entire seven innings and just one walk. WC's Trent Collier scattered six hits over five innings with four walks, three earned runs and six strikeouts.
Offensively, Manuel Salas went 2-for-3 for Weatherford. Caden Mitchell hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
The second game had a completely different feel, with four total home runs and 23 runs scored. WC had a 4-0 lead until Grayson broke out with a six-run third inning. Weatherford scored six more between the sixth and seventh, and the game went into extra innings.
The Vikings drew a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning, walking it off with the win.
Coyotes Jake Overstreet and Manuel Salas each went 3-for-5, with Salas knocking in four runs. Fisher Polydoroff hit Weatherford's only home run, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
12 pitchers made appearances in the game, six for each team.
The Coyotes will next play a four-game series with Ranger College, at Ranger Wednesday and at home Saturday. WC's home doubleheader will begin at noon Saturday at Roger Williams Ballpark.
