April 7, 2025
The No. 4 Weatherford College baseball team took both games from Ranger College over the weekend, winning in 3-2 walk-off fashion in game one and a 1-0 win in game two.
This four-game sweep against the Rangers extends the Coyotes' win streak to five in a row, with a victory in 10 of their last 12 games played.
The Coyotes are now 15-5 in conference matchups, standing at 32-7 overall, putting them first in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
Game one looked like a win for Ranger, leading 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, until Cayden Byrd stepped up to the plate. Going 1-for-4, Byrd popped up a single to bring in two runs and secure the walk-off win for the Coyotes.
Trent Collier started for the Coyotes, pitching a five-inning whirlwind. Striking out seven and walking two, Collier only allowed two runs on four hits and one earned run.
Game two was a shutout for WC. The only RBI came from Manny Salas in the first inning, while the rest of the game was defense against defense.
The Coyotes shut the door on the Rangers, collecting several double plays from each infielder. WC had three each from Salas at first base and second baseman JC Davis, as well as one each from third baseman Trace Mazon and shortstop Uriah Walters.
The WC bullpen out-pitched their competitors as well. Dylan Russo pitched for seven lights-out innings, throwing seven strikeouts and two walks. Relief from Dylan Buechele, who added two strikeouts, and Rodney Pena sealed the deal with one final K.
The Coyotes will be away at Hill College on Wednesday, April 9. They will start their doubleheader at noon and will be back home on Saturday April 12.
