Coyote baseball No. 3, softball No. 18 in latest national rankings
Brandt Leads Nation in Wins, Hanf Ranks High in Wins and Strikeouts for WC Programs
The Weatherford College baseball team moved up one spot to No. 3 and the softball team stayed at No. 18 in the latest Division I rankings released Monday by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Coyote baseball (32-7) swept Ranger College in four games last week, gaining sole possession of first place in the conference standings.
Evan Brandt continues to lead the nation in wins with nine, now standing alone at the top of that category. He ranks third in ERA with a 1.75. Rodney Pena is tied for second in the country in saves with six.
As a staff, Coyote pitchers have the third lowest ERA in the country (3.50).
Three of the nation's top five teams are from Texas: No. 2 Blinn, No. 3 WC and No. 5 Midland. McLennan is No. 20.
WC's softball team (29-9) also swept Ranger, scoring 50 runs in the four-game series.
Coyote Sarah Hanf ranks third in the nation in wins with 19 and fifth in strikeouts with 169.
The softball poll is chock-full of Texas programs: No. 4 McLennan, No. 5 Trinity Valley, No. 6 Grayson, No. 9 Odessa, No. 12 Temple, No. 15 Paris, No. 18 WC, No. 22 Galveston and No. 23 Tyler.
