Coyote baseball moves to No. 2, softball No. 17
Both teams prepare for crucial series against McLennan
Weatherford College baseball moved up one spot to No. 2 in the nation, and WC softball moved up to No. 17 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I rankings released Monday.
WC baseball (36-7) actually tied No. 1 LSU Eunice with 195 total points, but LSUE had five first-place votes to Weatherford's four.
WC replaced Blinn College at No. 2. The Buccaneers dropped to No. 5 after losing two out of three games last week, while the Coyotes won four of four.
Other Region V teams in the poll included No. 6 Midland and No. 18 McLennan.
In softball, WC (33-9) climbed a spot after a four-game sweep of Hill last week.
McLennan jumped from No. 4 to No. 1 in the softball poll. Grayson was No. 5, Odessa No. 9 and Temple No. 11.
WC baseball and softball begin a critical four-game series against McLennan this week. Baseball will host MCC on Wednesday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Roger Williams Ballpark. Softball will travel to Waco on Wednesday and then host MCC at Stuart Field on Saturday.
