One Up, One Down for WC
Coyotes split double-header
April 18, 2025
The No. 2 Weatherford College baseball team split a doubleheader with the visiting No. 18 McLennan Highlanders on Wednesday at Roger Williams Ballpark. Game one was a 6-3 WC victory, but the Coyotes were defeated in game two, 4-3.
In game one, the Highlanders put up an early run in the first, but Coyote third baseman Trace Mazon hit an RBI single in response to tie it back up.
After several base hits and only one out, Caden Mitchell stepped up for WC when a wild pitch from the Highlanders advanced the bases and brought Mazon home.
Blake Martinez and Trey Butler both stole home to widen the gap.
Despite the Highlanders bringing one in the third and one in the fourth, the Coyotes won 6-3.
Game two had Cooper Strawn on the mound. Strawn started the Coyotes off hot with 10 strikeouts to keep the score at bay.
A two-run homer from the Highlanders put them on the board in the third, but the Coyotes clapped back on two back-to-back RBI doubles from JC Davis and Mazon to even it back up.
Despite a home run from Mazon in the fifth, the Highlanders rallied with two runs in the top of the eighth to take the game 4-3.
The Coyotes (37-8 overall, 20-6 in conference) will be at McLennan (31-14, 15-7) in Waco on Friday, April 18, to finish the series with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
