WC sweeps El Paso in postseason playoff
Decisive Game 2 win sends WC to Super Regional
Weatherford College is headed to the super regional round of the baseball postseason after defeating El Paso Community College 12-2 at Roger Williams Ballpark on Friday, sweeping the first round series two games to none.
The Coyotes will now play in a four-team, double-elimination tournament Thursday through Sunday, May 15-18, at a site to be determined. The winner of that super regional will advance to the NJCAA Division I World Series.
Unlike Thursday's back-and-forth affair, WC dominated Friday's game. The Coyotes built a 12-0 lead before El Paso scored a run. The Tejanos hit two home runs in the fifth inning before WC closed the door, ending the game on the run rule after the fifth.
Trent Collier struck out eight batters in five innings, allowing four hits and two runs with no walks.
Leadoff hitter J.C. Davis was 3-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and three runs scored. Trace Mazon knocked in three runs on a 2-for-3 performance. Mason Ashlock continued his hot streak with another home run, a two-run shot in the top of the fifth.
WC, ranked No. 3 in the nation, improved to 46-11 overall. El Paso ended their season at 39-20.
