Crossland drafted by Cardinals
50th MLB draft pick from WC heads to STL
In round four, with the 120th pick in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday, the St. Louis Cardinals selected former Weatherford College pitcher Cade Crossland.
Crossland played for WC during the 2024 season, pitching in 14 games. He was honored with the Co-Pitcher of the Year Award from the the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference along with WC's Robert Fortenberry.
During his time with the Coyotes, Crossland had a 2.13 ERA, ranking 7th in the nation. He racked up 94 strikeouts which ranked him 13th nationally. The Rockwall native then went on to the University of Oklahoma, where he made 16 appearances on the mound with 13 starts.
He finished the season with a 6.32 ERA through 68.1 innings pitched, tallying 84 strikeouts to rank third on the Sooners' team in 2025. Notably, Crossland went a season-long seven innings against Nebraska (6/1) in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, surrendering no earned runs, striking out nine and walking just two.
The 6-foot-2-inch left hander is the 50th prospect to be drafted with Weatherford College ties.
