Coyotes still alive in super regionals
WC leads with grit and determination after double digit victory
After a loss to No. 10 McLennan Community College on Thursday, the No. 21 Weatherford College baseball team shut the door on Howard College on Friday, winning 12-1 and keeping their chances at the NJCAA World Series alive.
Pitching in all five innings, Noah Bentley left the mound a winner for the Coyotes, striking out three, and walking one. Only one run was earned on six hits.
The Coyote defense kept Howard at bay all afternoon. With two runners in scoring position in the top of the second, a grounder to third baseman Austin Godwin was thrown back to catcher Caden Mitchell for a fielder's choice on the way to home plate, preventing the Hawks from earning a run.
The bats were hot for WC's offense, putting numbers on the board early. Jackson Irons opened the first inning for the black and gold with a double, that eventually led to three runs scored.
Mitchell then stepped up in the second inning, repeating Irons success with a double that led to another three-run inning.
Ty Waid was the RBI leader for WC with six, hitting two home runs that led to the walk off victory.
WC will face Midland College on Saturday at noon at Roger Williams Ballpark.
