MCC takes two from WC
Weatherford College basketball teams suffered losses to McLennan Community College on Saturday, with both the men's and women's teams falling in conference games on the road.
McLennan Community College won both conference basketball games against Weatherford College in Waco on Saturday.
The MCC women, ranked No. 10 in the country with a 13-0 overall record, led by just five points with eight minutes to play. But McLennan rode a 35-9 late run to win 90-59.
Jacque Giron led WC with 16 points. Pearson McVay turned in a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Neso Anisiobi had 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Coyotes dropped to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
McLennan won the men's game 86-61. The Highlanders built a 23-point lead in the first half, and the Coyotes were not able to bridge the gap.
Handy Toussaint put in 19 points for Weatherford, aided by 13 from Antwan Wilson.
MCC was led by 26 from Rontavious Blackshear.
The Coyotes fell to 8-9, 1-1. MCC improved to 14-3, 1-0.
Both Weatherford teams travel to Hillsboro on Wednesday to face Hill College. WC will host Southwestern Christian College on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men.
