Lady Coyotes, Coyotes beat Collin on the road
WC basketball prepares for top-ranked McLennan after Collin sweep
Both Weatherford College basketball teams came away with victories against Collin College in Plano on Saturday, Feb. 8. The Lady Coyotes won 72-69 and the Coyotes 79-58.
The Lady Coyotes (14-8 overall, 6-3 in conference) started with an 18-12 lead against the Lady Cougars (16-7, 7-2). Over the course of the second and third, however, the Lady Cougars took it back.
WC was able to march ahead with 25 fourth quarter points for the lead and the win.
Neso Anisiobi led the afternoon in points for Weatherford College with 20. Jacque Giron added 13. Pearson McVay knocked down two blocks, brought back 13 rebounds and scored 11 points.
The Lady Coyotes have won seven of their last eight conference matchups.
The Coyotes (13-10 overall, 6-2 in conference) kept the Cougars (14-10, 4-4) behind all night on both sides of the ball. Building up from a 34-26 lead at the half, WC put up 45 in the second against Collin's 32.
Multiple WC players had notable performances on Saturday. Marcus-Myen King-Danchie and Gordon Magok each scored 16 points. Antwan Wilson and Tyson Whybrew each scored 12 points.
Magok had nine rebounds (three on offense, six on defense), while Whybrew (1 OREB, 6 DREB) and King-Danchie (2 OREB, 5 DREB) had seven apiece for a combined 14.
With 43 total rebounds and double digit point totals for multiple players in Plano, the Coyotes have won five of their last six conference games.
Both teams will be at home to face McLennan Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Graber Athletic Center. Both MCC teams lead their respective conference standings. The McLennan women, ranked No. 9 in the nation, are tied with Grayson for first place with WC at third. The MCC men's team leads the conference with a 6-1 record; WC sits in second place at 6-2.
