MCC teams take two from WC
Both our Coyote basketball teams took on nationally ranked McLennan CC on the road. Despite strong individual performances and a halftime lead for the men, MCC protected their home court.
Weatherford College basketball lost to two nationally ranked teams at McLennan Community College in Waco on Wednesday night.
The Lady Coyotes lost to No. 17 MCC 67-50. McLennan (19-4 overall, 7-3 in conference) is 10-1 at home this season.
After falling behind by 10 points in the first quarter, WC outscored McLennan by eight to cut the halftime deficit to five at 33-28. MCC held the Lady Coyotes at bay in the second half to seal the win.
Weatherford's Neso Anisiobi turned in 12 points and nine rebounds.
The WC women are 12-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play.
In the men's game, No. 20 MCC won 66-58. WC had a 33-31 lead at the half, but the Highlanders had a 10-point edge in the second half.
Three Coyotes finished with double-figure scoring: Josiah Coleman (16 points), Bol Dhieu (14) and Andre Bennett (12).
The Coyotes made 12 of 13 free throws.
The Weatherford men dropped to 11-14 overall and 3-6 in conference play. MCC improved to 23-1 overall and 8-0 in conference. McLennan is 15-0 at home this season.
Both WC teams travel to Hill College in Hillsboro on Saturday and return home on Wednesday, Feb. 18, to face Southwestern Christian College. The women will tip off at 5 p.m. and the men at 7 p.m.
