WC men compete in NJCAA National Preview
The team finished ninth at the NJCAA National Preview tournament, with Ethan Armendarez leading the Coyotes with a 13th place individual finish.
The Weatherford College men's golf team competed at the NJCAA National Preview on Thursday and Friday in a field that included eight of the top 10 teams in the nation. The tournament was played at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas, the site of this year's national tournament to be held in May.
After the first two rounds, the No. 9 Coyotes were sitting in fourth place out of 15 teams, shooting 14 over in the first round and 19 over in the second. But a third round of 25 over knocked WC down to a ninth-place finish.
Host team Hutchinson Community College (No. 3 in the nation) won the tournament, 20 strokes ahead of second place Western Texas College (No. 10).
WC's Ethan Armendarez climbed nine spots in the final round to finish tied for 13th individually. Armendarez shot 76-78-74 over the three rounds.
Braylan Mahanay finished tied for 15th (74-74-81).
