No. 10 Coyotes compete with universities in New Orleans
Coyotes defeat four universities at Gulf Coast Collegiate
As the only two-year college squad at the tournament, the Weatherford College men's golf team finished in 14th place at the Gulf Coast Collegiate, defeating four universities in the process. The 54-hole event was held Monday and Tuesday at English Turn Golf & Country Club in New Orleans.
The Coyotes are currently ranked No. 10 in the nation among National Junior College Athletic Association Division I teams.
"I'm really proud of the guys and how they handled themselves on and off the course this week," said Dave Rennhack, WC head golf coach. "We weren't able to play a practice round due to heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday. They were also challenged competing in heavy rains during the first 18 holes on Monday."
WC's Braylon Mahanay tied for ninth overall individually out of 96 golfers, shooting 75-70-71 (even par). The Aledo High School graduate is currently ranked No. 43 in the nation.
The University of Louisiana at Monroe won the tournament at 8-under.
"We've been practicing hard and broke into the top ten this week on a Tour-caliber course," Rennhack said.
