WC women finish 3rd, men 4th in Ruidoso
Weatherford College’s golf teams made a strong showing in Ruidoso, New Mexico, with standout individual performances and record-breaking scores.
The Weatherford College women's golf team finished tied for third place, and WC was fourth on the men's side at the Poss High Country Shootout in Ruidoso, New Mexico, held Monday and Tuesday.
The women's tournament was played at Alto Lakes Country Club, a par-71, 5,858-yard course.
"Our women's team established itself as a top team in the region this week, competing well against the best," said Dave Rennhack, WC head golf coach. "We have a very young and talented team. I expect them to be ranked near the top when the first set of rankings comes out."
WC's Corrina Haros tied for seventh place individually, shooting 7-over par (75-74). Yixuan Mu tied for 12th at 10 over (75-74). Angali Nair was 14th (77-78, 13 over).
The WC men competed at the Links at Sierra Blanca, which is a par-72, 6,757-yard track.
The Coyotes played their best golf in the third round, shooting nine strokes lower than in round two.
"We shot 18-under Tuesday, that may be a single-day scoring record for WC," Rennhack said. "I believe 39 under par for 54 holes is also a new record."
Michael Mayer led Weatherford on the individual leaderboard, tied for seventh at 13 under (72-63-68).
"This is one of the toughest fields we compete in, and I'm pleased with how well they played, especially in the final round," Rennhack said.
Nathan Anderson tied for 16th at 11 under (69-70-66). Dawson Langan tied for 19th at 10 under (68-68-70).
