Nicholas Lewis ties for medalist honors as Coyotes hold off tough field in windy conditions
The Weatherford College men's golf team took third place out of 13 teams at the TankLogix & Tall City Exploration Collegiate in Midland, March 9-10.
WC's Nicholas Lewis tied for first place on the individual leaderboard. Lewis shot 2-under 69 in the first round and followed up with rounds of 71 and 70.
The No. 6 Coyotes shot 2-over par as a team in the first round and made a push with a 3-under second round. The third round saw wind gusts over 40 miles per hour, causing all teams to struggle. WC shot 13-over but held on to third place.
WC's Youssef El Hali was fifth at even par (67-70-76).
No. 2 Odessa College won the team title at 3-over. The tournament was played at Green Tree Country Club.
"We were on the road for four weeks and they were a little fatigued. But they played tough against the best in the country," said Dave Rennhack, WC head golf coach. "I'm excited about entering the postseason with a very talented team. It's very competitive at the top and we are in the mix."
