WC men’s tennis in 13th at nationals
Two Coyotes advance to semifinals at national tournament
Weatherford College was in 13th place out of 28 teams at the NJCAA Men's Tennis National Championship after Wednesday's play. The tournament is being held through Friday in Florence, South Carolina.
In singles play, WC's Alexis Leguizamon defeated a Bevill State Community College (Alabama) player in Flight 2, 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 32. He advanced to Thursday's semifinals after a walkover in the round of 16.
Andres Serrano advanced to the semifinals in Flight 5. He won his opening round match over a Paradise Valley Community College (Arizona) player 6-0, 6-0, and then advanced in the round of 16 with a win over a competitor from Collin College, 6-3, 6-1. His Wednesday victory over an Iowa Central Community College athlete, 6-3, 6-2, placed him in the final four of his flight.
Alejandro Rozo won his round of 32 match in Flight 6 over an Itawamba Community College competitor, 6-3, 6-3. Rojo then lost in the round of 16 to a player from Eastern Florida State College, 6-0, 6-1.
WC's Flight 2 doubles team of Serrano and Marko Filipovic advanced to the quarterfinals. They had a bye in the first round and won the round of 16 over a pair from Northwest Mississippi Community College, 6-2, 6-3.
Omar Hamazaoui and Christopher Schlossman defeated a team from Itawamba Community College (Mississippi) in the opening round of doubles flight 3, 6-3, 6-2. They lost to a Cowley College (Kansas) pair in the second round, 6-4, 6-4.
WC's top doubles team, Emmanuel Jebutu and Rozo, dropped their round of 32 match to a team from Coastal Alabama Community College, 6-4, 6-2.
