Tennis begins their spring swing
Nationally ranked men's and women's team start spring season with high expectations
The Weatherford College men's and women's tennis teams enter the spring season with several players ranked nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Overall, the men's team is ranked tenth in the nation while the women's team rank eighth.
Leading the men's team is Matteo Cardoso, who holds the No. 7 national ranking in singles. Andres Serrano follows at No. 14, with Benjamin Asker ranked No. 31 and Santi Hidalgo at No. 34.
Cardoso and Asker share a history beyond the court. The best friends from Argentina were signed late in the summer and have become key additions to the roster.
In doubles, the duo of Cardoso and Hidalgo is ranked No. 11.
On the women's side, Maria Camila Ternera is ranked No. 21 in the nation in singles. Valeria Cabrera follows at No. 35, and Juliana Jurado is ranked No. 46.
Two Lady Coyote doubles teams also earned national recognition. Jurado and Ternera are ranked No. 8, while Cabrera and Rosmary Pena are No. 19.
