Rodeo wins at Sul Ross

The Weatherford College Rodeo team struck gold in their first event of the 2025-2026 season at the Sul Ross State University Rodeo. This victory was the first for WC in the newly formed Lone Star Region. The Coyotes came home as the Women's Team Champions and Men's Team Reserve Champions.
WC newcomer Slade Wood was crowned the Men's All-Around Champion. Wood competed in tiedown roping, receiving a 23.2 on two to place eighth, and in team roping, registered a 19.7 with Ketch Kelton from Cisco College on two for seventh place.
In the team roping event, Dalton Huston and Brock Rouse earned a 6.6 for tenth in the slack on day one and came back to win first in the short go with a 4.7 for an 11.3 total.

For bull riding, Noah Lee received an 85 in the first and an 85 in the short go for a total of 170 to take the first-place title. Mecate Trammell got a 77 and 83 for a 160 total to win second place.

WC Head Rodeo Coach Johnny Emmons said the athletes will be a very competitive group this year.
"We have a very deep, talented team across the board in every event. We have several returning CNFR qualifiers and national champs on the team, plus a very good freshman and sophomore class."
Emmons hopes for more of the same results in the coming weeks as the team will travel to compete in the Cisco College Lone Star Region Rodeo hosted by Cisco College at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene. The Coyotes will then return home for the inaugural Weatherford College Lone Star Region Rodeo at the Parker County Sheriff's Posse Grounds Oct. 10-11.
