WC teams take reserve championships in inaugural home rodeo
Coyotes successfully host first home event in Lone Star Region
The Parker County Sheriff's Posse Arena was the backdrop to the first home event for the WC rodeo team as part of the newly formed Lone Star Region. Both the men's and women's teams were crowned reserve champions on Saturday night.
Great crowds and a winning attitude made it a weekend to remember for the Coyotes. Head rodeo coach Johnny Emmons commented on how nice it was to see the community come and show their support for WC.
"I know it will grow from here," he said. "I think we impressed a lot of people with the quality of the production and competition level. We had a great rodeo and look forward to the next one!"
Emmons also said it was a good showing from both teams, putting the work in for their families and friends who were in attendance.
"I was very pleased with our performance."
Jake Shelton took home the men's all-around champion award, competing well in the tiedown roping, steer wrestling and steer roping events.
In tiedown roping, Shelton scored an 8.9 in the first round and an 8.1 in the second for a 17.0 total to win second. He received an 11.5 on two for fifth place in steer wrestling and a 19.8 for 11th place in steer roping.
Dalton Huston and Brock Rouse were the team roping champions with a score of 5.2 in the first, and a 7.4 in the short go for a total of 12.6. Bryce Bunting and his partner, Kyler Goad from Vernon College, won second overall with an 18.5 score on two.
In saddle bronc, Mitchie Story came away with an 85 in the first round and an 80 in the short go for a 165 total to win second.
Alexis Hutchings placed second in goat tying with a 7 in the first round, and a 7.1 in the second for a total of 14.1. Dallas Jo Kennan took home third on a 14.6 score on two.
In barrel racing, Acey Pinkston had a total run score of 35.27 on two to place third.
