WC named women’s team champions at Vernon Rodeo
Final event in 2025 ends in victory for the Coyotes
The Weatherford College Rodeo team returned victorious from the Vernon College Rodeo over the weekend, ending the first half of the 2025-26 season as it began: with the Women's Team Championship title.
Acey Pinkston won barrel racing, posting a score of 18.19 in the first round and 17.99 in the short go, totaling 36.18. Kacey Bass was named reserve champion, scoring an 18.37 in the first round and an 18.34 in the short go for a 36.71 total. Emily Ward finished with 36.92 for fourth.
In breakaway roping, Brooke Crenshaw posted a 4.0 in the first round and a 5.2 in the short go for a total of 9.2 to win second. Jymie Adamson followed closely behind with a 9.5 on two for third.
Mitchie Story came up big for the Coyotes in saddle bronc, scoring an 80.5 in the first round for second place and improving to an 83.5 in the short go for an average of 163.5 and a first-place triumph.
Representing WC in team roping, Hunter Helton and his partner Rylin Scheller (Ranger College) scored an initial 7.4 in the first round and secured a 13.0 in the short go for a final score of 20.4 and the first-place victory. Conley Kleinhans (Weatherford College) and his partner Kyler Kanday (Cisco College) earned a 6.4 on one for third.
In bareback riding, Brent Applegarth started out with a score of 65 in the first round for sixth place. In the short go, Applegarth received a 76 score for a total of 144.5 to place third overall.
Jake Shelton won third for his performance in steer wrestling with a combined score of 11.5 on two.
The Weatherford College Rodeo team will be back in action in 2026 for the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo on Feb. 2-4 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.
