WC rodeo stands out in San Antonio
San Antonio saw several first place performances from the Coyotes
Last weekend, the Weatherford College rodeo team traveled to compete at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo's South Texas Collegiate Classic.
Four athletes came out on top as champions in the bull riding, breakaway roping, saddle bronc and team roping events, while another was awarded the reserve champion in steer wrestling. The WC men's team placed third overall, while the women's team placed fourth overall.
Scoring an 84 for first place in round one and an 83 for first in the short go, Shane Scott received a total score of 167 for the win in bull riding.
Bridger Ketcham of Sul Ross and Jerryn Ellerd of Weatherford College earned a 5.9 to place third in the first round in team roping. The duo lassoed a 4.6 in the short go to secure first place.
In saddle bronc, Mitchie Story received a final score of 160.5 on two to claim the champion title. Jace Stout earned a 139 on two for third place, while Wyatt Nuce produced a 132.5 on two to place fourth.
Emma Nelson initially earned 2.0 in the first round of breakaway roping to tie for third. Nelson came back in the short go, earning a 1.9 for a total score of 3.9 on two to tie for first place.
For the steer wrestling category, Jake Shelton scored a 5.6 for fourth place in the first round, then earned a 4.9 for second place in the short go for a total of 10.5, earning second overall.
WC Rodeo will be at the Ranger College Rodeo in Sweetwater, March 26 to 28.
