Coyote softball sweeps NCTC in doubleheader
The Weatherford College softball team swept North Central Texas College in a conference doubleheader at Stuart Field Saturday, 8-4 and 2-1.
The Weatherford College softball team swept North Central Texas College in a conference doubleheader at Stuart Field Saturday, 8-4 and 2-1.
WC, ranked 20th in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I poll, improved to 11-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play. NCTC fell to 8-6 and 2-2.
The Coyotes had 12 hits in game one, highlighted by a 3-for-4 performance from Ayanna Williams. Marcie Moss scattered eight hits over six innings, allowing two earned runs, walking one and striking out one.
Game two ended in dramatic fashion as Stephanie Jimenez hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning. Karli Manney was 3-for-4 at the plate. Destini Trahan allowed one earned run and eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts over seven innings. Cambree Aguirre earned the win in relief with just one hit in three innings, one walk and two strikeouts.
Weatherford travels to Temple College for a Wednesday doubleheader and returns to Stuart Field Saturday, also against Temple. The Saturday doubleheader begins at 11 a.m.
