WC softball advances with 6-0 win

Weatherford College scored all six of its runs in the top of the fifth inning, beating Vernon College 6-0 in the third round of the Region V-North Softball Tournament Friday night at Stuart Field.

An RBI sacrifice fly by Olivia Gutierrez got things started in the fifth for Weatherford, followed by another sac fly RBI from Destiney Jones. Vernon then committed two costly errors that allowed Gutierrez, Karli Manney and Sierra Nixon to score. A line drive double from Annabelle Guay pushed Powell across the plate.

Amelia Hatthorn went all seven innings, allowing just three hits, no earned runs and two walks with one strikeout.

WC was scheduled to play Grayson College in another elimination game Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
