Hanf named national pitcher of the week
Stellar week leads to national recognition for freshman Coyote
Weatherford College's Sarah Hanf has been named both the national and regional Pitcher of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
As a freshman right-handed pitcher hailing from Elk Grove, California, Hanf is making her college softball debut in a big way. Hanf won three games last week for the WC softball team, including one against 13th-ranked Paris. In total, Hanf allowed three runs and only nine hits in 13 innings. She wrapped up the week with 21 strikeouts and three walks.
"What a way to start your college softball career," said head coach Haylee Williams. "We knew Sarah was special when we signed her and it was great to see her show such poise and consistency this early. She makes it tough at the plate for hitters and her team loves to play behind her."
Hanf is only the second player in the 14 season history of the program to receive this national honor. Taylor Maliska won the National Pitcher of the Week Award in April of 2016.
The Coyotes next matchup will be played at home against Navarro College on Friday, Feb. 7, with games at noon and 2 p.m. at Stuart Field.
