WC softball ranked No. 21
Winning streak earns Coyotes national recognition
The Weatherford College softball team is ranked No. 21 in the country according to the first regular season poll released Monday by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
The Coyotes are 12-2 after starting the season with a six-game winning streak and currently riding a five-game unbeaten streak. WC is hitting .303 as a team and averaging 5.6 runs per game.
Pitcher Sarah Hanf ranks second in the nation in strikeouts with 69 and third in wins with 10. The Elk Grove, California freshman was named the season's first NJCAA Pitcher of the Week.
Other Region V teams in the poll include No. 4 McLennan, No. 5 Grayson, No. 8 Odessa and No. 12 Temple. The national rankings are sponsored by Netting Professionals.
The Coyotes begin conference play on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Stuart Field against Vernon College. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
