WC baseball holds on to No. 1, softball moves up to No. 17
NJCAA continues to vote for Coyotes
Weatherford College's baseball team remained No. 1 in the nation and its softball team moved up two spots to No. 17 in the Division I polls released Monday by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
This week's baseball poll was the closest of the year. Voters awarded WC 195 points compared to 194 for No. 2 Louisiana State University Eunice (30-1). The Coyotes (24-5) had five first-place votes while LSUE's Bengals had four.
Region V's Midland College (26-4) moved up three spots to No. 8 in the baseball poll. McLennan (17-10) dropped from No. 18 to No. 24. El Paso dropped out of the Top 25.
This was WC's fifth straight week to top the rankings.
In softball, Weatherford (24-6) moved up on the strength of a four-game sweep of Cisco College.
Florida Southwestern State College (29-1) retained its No. 1 spot. McLennan was No. 4, Grayson No. 5, Odessa No. 10 and Temple No. 12.
