Coyotes defeat Ranger in two
WC extends conference lead with dominant doubleheader win
The No. 18 Weatherford College (15-7 in conference, 27-9 overall) beat regional rival Ranger College (6-12, 11-29) in a double header on Wednesday, winning 9-1 in game one and taking a 10-7 victory in game two.
Game one was a heater for the Coyotes, putting up three in the third, one more in the fourth and adding five in the sixth to win on the run rule.
Due to a couple of wild plays from Ranger, five bases were stolen for the Coyotes by Ava Garcia, Alexah Reyes, Peyton Young, Rian Coon and Sadie Reid.
The highlight moment came from Karlie Landrum, who went 2-for-3 on the day, hitting a three-run shot to center field to win the game for WC.
Right-handed pitcher Sarah Hanf pitched for six innings to keep the Rangers down to just one point in the fifth. Hanf came out of the circle with 10 strikeouts, one walk and four hits.
As the afternoon continued to heat up, so too did the battle for the second game win. A four run second inning for the Coyotes put them in the lead early.
A pair of doubles from Lilli Williams and Hanna Bartles brought in three runs, followed up by an RBI single from Reyes.
Ranger put up two of their own at the top of the third, followed by WC putting one up in the fourth and Ranger's one more in the top of the fifth, bridging the gap to make it 5-3 in favor of the home team.
At the bottom of the fifth, the score nearly doubled for the Coyotes on another three-run no-doubter to left field from Landrum.
Despite Ranger adding three runs at the top of the seventh, right-handed pitcher Lindsey Oliver closed the game for the black and gold and added another home sweep to their season.
WC will finish their series at Ranger College starting at noon on Sunday, April 6.
