Weatherford College broke Grayson College's 18-game winning streak with a 2-1 win in the first game of a softball doubleheader at Stuart Field on Thursday. Grayson is ranked No. 1 in the latest Division I poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association.
The Coyotes trailed 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning, when they pushed across two runs, highlighted by a Janae Trojack RBI double.
Sarah Hanf earned the complete game win, allowing one hit and one walk with eight strikeouts.
Grayson (22-2 overall, 1-1 conference) won the second game, 7-1.
The Vikings scored three runs each in the third and fifth innings. WC's lone run came in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double from Karlie Landrum.
The doubleheader marked the conference opener for both teams.
The Coyotes are 17-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. WC will travel to Denison to play Grayson again Saturday, March 14, and will return home Saturday, March 21, to face Ranger College in a noon doubleheader.
