Coyotes drop conference openers at Collin
The Coyotes dropped their conference openers on the road Wednesday. Both teams return to the floor this Saturday for the home conference opener vs. McLennan.
The Weatherford College basketball teams dropped their conference openers to Collin College on Wednesday night in Plano.
The Lady Coyotes lost 109-75, while the men's team fell 65-50.
In the women's game, WC started strong, holding a 23-21 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, Collin responded in the second period to take a 44-35 halftime lead and pulled away in the second half to seal the victory.
Natalia Arseniadou and Anja Djukic led the Lady Coyotes with 12 points each. Djukic also dished out a team-high seven assists. Maiya Wesley and Rileigh Hairston added 11 points apiece. Collin's Gabby Morales led all scorers with 34 points.
In the men's game, the Coyotes faced a 31-20 deficit at halftime. Weatherford played Collin nearly even in the second half but could not overcome the early gap, falling 65-50.
Daunte Smith led the Coyotes with 20 points.
Both teams return to the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center on Saturday, Jan. 10, for their first home conference games against McLennan Community College. The women tip off at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m.
