Lady Coyotes stay in the hunt with win at Temple
Weatherford keeps the postseason hunt alive with a gritty 71-59 road win at Temple; Men's team falls 79-75
The Weatherford College women's basketball team kept its postseason hopes alive Saturday with a 71-59 road win at Temple College.
The Lady Coyotes controlled the game from the opening tip, outscoring the Leopards in all four quarters and taking a 21-16 lead after the first.
Neso Anisiobi powered WC once again, finishing with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Anja Djukic added a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists, while Lauryn Ebara provided a lift off the bench with 14 points on four 3-pointers.
Temple's Daija Mitchell pulled down 21 rebounds in the loss. Only two Lady Leopards reached double figures in scoring: Emori Lasalle with 16 points and Ke'Myreul Wheaton with 11.
With the victory, Weatherford improved to 14-10 overall and 6-7 in conference play. The Lady Coyotes trail Hill College by two games for the fourth and final regional tournament berth, with three regular-season games remaining.
In the men's matchup, Temple edged Weatherford 79-75 despite a 20-point performance from WC's Jel Malek. Josiah Coleman added 16.
Weatherford won the rebounding battle 33-28, but Temple made the difference at the free-throw line, converting 26 of 31 attempts.
The loss dropped the Coyotes to 21-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play. WC trails Ranger by two games with two to play, including a head-to-head meeting on March 4 that could determine the final regional tournament berth.
