Lady Coyotes compete in Islander Classic
'Future is bright' for WC women's golf, says Johnston
The Weatherford College women's golf team placed sixth in the NJCAA Division 1 Islander Classic golf tournament at the Corpus Christi Country Club Feb. 17 and 18.
WC beat out McLennan Community College and Blinn College, marking the first time WC has defeated these opponents in program history.
Notably, freshman Corrina Haros placed 10th out of the 56 athletes in the tournament.
Sophomore Catherine Haas-Black had the low round of 73 on the first day, shooting one over par.
"I am super proud of the way they battled the entire tournament," said Katie Johnston, assistant golf coach. "We had a goal…and we achieved that goal.
"They put in the work outside of practice and they work their tail off during practice. This wasn't an easy golf course and they shot the lowest round as a team that we have ever done before. The future is bright for the Lady Coyotes. Our next tournament is in San Angelo, and they are ready to go!"
The Lady Coyotes will travel to the San Angelo Quicksand Golf Course for their next tournament on March 17 and 18.
