WC women’s golf finishes second at TXWES Invitational
Only community college in the field, Coyotes place ahead of five universities
The Weatherford College women's golf team finished in second place at the TXWES Spring Invitational April 14-15 at Squaw Creek Golf Course in Willow Park.
WC was the only community college competing in the seven-team tournament. The Coyotes' best round was its first, shooting 305-326-312 over three rounds. Host Texas Wesleyan University won the tournament.
"I'm super proud of our team for the way they played," said Katie Johnson, WC assistant golf coach. "They beat our best team score with 305. And they had a goal they each wanted to achieve that final round and they did exactly that."
Weatherford's Corrina Haros finished second overall out of 39 golfers, shooting 72-81-72. She carded seven birdies overall and only had one over-par hole in the final round.
"Corrina played an amazing tournament and had two even-par rounds out of the three," Johnston said. "Being a freshman and achieving that goal is just an amazing achievement."
Kyla Morales (78-81-79) and Emily Gutierrez (77-81-79) tied for 13th place. Catherine Haas-Black tied for 16th (78-83-81).
The only tournament remaining on the schedule is the NJCAA Southwest District Championship, hosted by WC at Canyon West Golf Course, April 28-30. The top two teams will earn automatic berths in the NJCAA National Tournament.
