WC’s Haros finishes fifth at nationals
First nationals appearance for Coyotes leads to impressive outcome
In the program's first national tournament, the Weatherford College women's golf team took 13th place at the NJCAA Division I National Championship near Garden City, Kansas May 12-15. The tournament was played at Buffalo Dunes Golf Club.
WC's Corrina Haros finished fifth out of 79 golfers, improving from 10th place after the second round. The freshman from Mansfield finished 11 over par with rounds of 75, 75, 72 and 77. Her third round included three birdies.
The Coyotes, ranked No. 11 in the nation at the end of the regular season, shot 329-315-324-326 as a team. No. 2 Odessa College won the national championship by 18 strokes over second place Seminole State College (Florida).
WC finished the season with an all-region honoree (Haros), three first team all-conference players and the Coach of the Year Award winner (Katie Johnston). This was just the second year for the program.
