WC women’s tennis wins region, both teams nationally ranked
Multiple players earn top national individual and doubles rankings
The Weatherford College tennis teams finished the regular season in Plano, and both are in the national rankings after competing against Collin College last week.
The WC women defeated Collin 6-3 for the regional championship. Juliana Jurado defeated Collin's Marie-Alix Urcun 6-4, 7-5 in singles play. Rosmary Pena and Jurado defeated Urcun and Alyssa Glasgow 8-4 in doubles.
Collin won the men's dual match, 8-1. Marko Filipovic and Andres Serrano beat Enrique Doldan and D. Zeki in doubles.
In the latest national rankings released April 17, the WC women were ranked No. 6 in the country, and the men came in at No. 12.
Tsitsi Claire Mahere was ranked No. 10 in the nation in singles play. Hoziane Kitambala ranked No. 16. Pena was No. 31 and Jurado No. 40. In doubles, Mahere and Kitambala came in at No. 6. Pena and Jurado were listed at No. 13.
In the men's singles rankings, Emmanuel Jebutu was No. 18 in the nation. Alexis Leguizamon ranked No. 31. Jebutu and Leguizamon ranked No. 17 in doubles.
The NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship will be held May 3-7 in Tyler, and the men's national tournament will be held May 12-16 in Florence, South Carolina.
