WC in ninth place at women’s tennis nationals

Going into the final day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships, the Weatherford College women's tennis team was in ninth place out of 20 teams in Tyler Wednesday morning.
WC had 20 points, trailing eighth place Seward County Community College (Kansas) by just one point.
After winning their first two Flight 1 doubles matches, WC's Hoziane Kitambala and Claire Mahere lost a quarterfinal match to Molly Bennett and Helen Hernandez of Jones College (Mississippi), 6-0, 6-2.
In the Flight 2 doubles quarterfinals, Weatherford's Juliana Jurado and Rosmary Pena won the first set 6-4 but then lost the next two, 6-4, 6-2.
In singles play, Mahere lost in the Flight 1 quarterfinals to Catherine Goldman of Hillsborough Community College (Florida) 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
In Flight 2, Kitambala won a consolation semifinal over a player from Mesa Community College (Arizona), 8-3.
Pena won her consolation semifinal in Flight 3 over a Southwestern Illinois College competitor, 8-1.
Hillsborough Community College (Florida) led the team standings Wednesday morning with 39 points, followed by Cowley College (Kansas) with 35 and St. Petersburg College (Florida) with 33.
