WC Tennis sweeps McMurry, falls to Angelo
Men's and Women's teams dominate on the road
The Weatherford College men's and women's tennis teams had a busy weekend, winning a pair of 7-0 sweeps over McMurry University on Jan. 31. The women's team fell to Angelo State University the day prior.
Friday was a tough matchup for WC, where the women's team fell 6-1 to Angelo State University. The singular success came from freshman Kshirin Wakalker, who joined the Coyotes at the beginning of January, earning her first collegiate victory.
The Coyotes came back with a spark on Saturday, dominating McMurry in every event.
In the women's matches, WC took the doubles point early. The duo of Maria Camila Ternera and Rosmary Pena defeated their opponents 6-2, while Amanda Skeltinga and Sara Tublen likewise won 6-1, allowing Valeria Cabrera and Wakalker to win by default.
In singles action, Ternera won 6-4 in the first match and 7-5 in the second.
Cabrera won 6-1 and 6-0, while Skeltinga beat her opponent 6-4 and 6-0.
Tublen added a 6-2 and 6-3 win, while Kameron Shipp finished the day with 6-1 and 6-0.
Weatherford won the final line by default.
The WC men's tennis team had an equally successful day against McMurry, sweeping in doubles 7-0.
Benjamin Asker and Andres Serrano won a heated contest, edging out to a 7-1 victory in a tiebreaker.
Julian Blainey and Pablo Pasco won 6-1, while Santiago Hidalgo and Matteo Cardoso won 6-2 for the Coyotes.
In the singles events, Blainey, Hidalgo and Pasco swept the competition.
Cardoso and Serrano defeated their opponents by allowing only one point each, while Asker allowed only three points.
