Coyotes ranked No. 2, beat NCTC in conference opener
Coyotes open the season with a strong win
Tuesday was a good day for the Weatherford College volleyball team as it jumped from No. 4 to No. 2 in the national polls and won its first conference match on the road.
The rankings, from the National Junior College Athletic Association, put Miami Dade College at No. 1 and WC at No. 2. Miami Dade has a 4-0 record and finished second in the nation last season. After Tuesday night's win, WC is 10-0.
It's the highest ranking in the four seasons of Coyote volleyball.
Other Region V teams in the poll were No. 11 Odessa College (7-1), No. 13 Frank Phillips College (5-0) and No. 14 New Mexico Military Institute (6-3).
WC traveled to North Central Texas College in Gainesville and won 3 sets to 1 to open up play in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
Freshman Beline Thibaut had 15 kills on 30 attempts, two aces and 16 digs.
Kiana Souza had 23 digs and one ace, and Victoria Sanchez added 21 assists, three aces and five digs.
WC takes on McLennan Community College for the first time Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center. This is MCC's first year to field a volleyball team.
