Coyotes battle for 22nd straight conference win
The victory, fueled by a key second-set comeback, sets the Coyotes up for a challenging road trip to face four tough Florida programs, including the No. 1 and No. 3 ranked teams in the nation.
It was a sweep, but a hard-fought sweep for the Weatherford College volleyball team on Wednesday night. WC defeated McLennan Community College at the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center for its 22nd consecutive conference victory.
The No. 2 ranked Coyotes (11-0 overall, 2-0 conference) jumped out with a 25-15 win in the first set, leading from start to finish.
But the second set was a battle. MCC built a five-point lead twice, with the Coyotes trailing until a rally spurred on by several Weronika Urbanksa kills tied the set at 20-20. The two teams went back and forth until Weatherford prevailed, 28-26.
The Coyotes cruised in the third set, 25-13.
Urbanska ended the match with a double-double, 14 kills and 12 digs, along with an ace. Beline Thibaut added six kills, 12 digs and an ace. Victoria Sanchez had 14 assists and two aces.
Next, the Coyotes travel to Melbourne, Florida, to face four tough programs over two days: No. 1 Miami Dade College, No. 3 Florida Southwestern College, No. 12 Eastern Florida State College and Daytona State College. The EFSC Women's Volleyball Tournament will run Friday and Saturday at Titan Field House.
