Onyegwu & Souza named Players of the Week

Mirabel Onyegwu and Kiana Souza were selected as the Northern Texas Junior College Volleyball Players of the Week. This is the second consecutive week where players from No. 4 Weatherford College have claimed both offensive and defensive recognition. This is Souza's second time in a row being named the defensive POTW.

 

Onyegwu, a Nasarawa, Nigeria native, has been a great addition for the Coyotes this season. She was a major factor in WC's conference opener against North Central Texas College, with nine kills and two blocks, averaging 2.4 points per set and had a hitting efficiency of .205. She also led the Coyotes' offense against No. 1 Miami Dade with 10 kills, hitting an outstanding .348 for the match. 

 

Souza averaged 4.3 digs per set in six matches played on the Coyotes' road trip to Florida last week. The San Antonio native had a remarkable 27 digs against NCTC and 15 in a sweep against No. 12 Eastern Florida State College. Kiana also had 29 digs and nine service aces, four of which came in a sweep of McLennan.

 

The Coyotes will be on the road to face Hill College on Saturday, September 13 and back home on September 17 to take on Southwestern Christian College.
