WC to host regional volleyball tourney Nov. 6-8
Region V Tournament is coming to Weatherford College
Weatherford College will host the NJCAA Region V Volleyball Tournament Nov. 6-8 at the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center.
Eight qualifying teams from across Texas and New Mexico will compete in the single-elimination tournament. The tournament's champion and runner-up will earn automatic berths in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament, to be held in Clarksville, Tennessee, Nov. 19-22.
Weatherford earned the right to host the tournament due to winning the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) title last season.
"The success of our volleyball program has put us in position to host this tournament," said Jeff Lightfoot, WC athletic director. "This tournament will bring some of the best NJCAA volleyball in the country."
WC is the highest-ranked squad in the tournament, according to the NJCAA Division I poll. The No. 2 Coyotes are 28-2 overall.
Other nationally-ranked squads that have qualified for the tournament are No. 8 Odessa College (26-3), No. 11 Frank Phillips College (19-3) and No. 12 New Mexico Military Institute (22-8). The complete eight-team bracket will be set after the regular season ends Saturday, Nov. 1.
The tournament will include the top four teams from the NTJCAC and the top four from the Western Junior College Athletic Conference.
WC clinched a top seed due to winning its fourth straight conference title. Weatherford, led by WC head coach Kailee May, will play its opening game Thursday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m. against the fourth seed from the WJCAC.
"What Coach May has done in a short amount of time with the volleyball program is incredible," Lightfoot said. "It will be an exciting time for Parker County volleyball fans."
Tournament passes are available at weatherfordcollege.simpletix.com. The three-day tournament pass is $25 ($27.08 with online fees). Day passes are $10 ($11.63 with fees).
