Puente, McCabe earn POTW
Dynamic performances lead to two Coyotes earning NTJCAC recognition
On Oct. 31, the Weatherford College volleyball team had two players earn the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards for offense and defense.
Glorybell Puente was named the Offensive Player of the Week, and Ally McCabe the Defensive Player of the Week. This is the third time this season that both awards were earned by members of the WC volleyball team, and it marks the fifth and sixth individual athletes to earn recognition.
Puente, a middle blocker from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, had an outstanding offensive performance against Collin College, scoring seven kills on seven attempts. Setting a school record for hitting percentage in a three-set match, the 5'11" freshman continued her success in the Coyotes matchup against Vernon College. Going for five kills on nine swings, and only one error, Puente hit an impressive .688 and averaged over two points per set with 12 kills on 16 attempts and recorded four blocks.
A 5'6" freshman setter from Granbury, McCabe had her two best outings as a setter last week. Logging double-digit assists in the Coyotes' match against Collin, McCabe set a career-high 22 assists and chipped in six digs, one kill and two aces. Last Saturday against Vernon, she topped that record high with 24 assists, while adding two kills and six digs on the day. McCabe averaged 7.7 assists, as well as two digs, per set.
