Wind gusts of up to 30 miles an hour made conditions difficult in the first round of the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf National Championship in Newton, Kansas. No. 4 Weatherford College was tied for ninth place as a team after 18 holes at Sand Creek Station Golf Course on Tuesday.
Only six strokes separated WC from second place.
WC's Tanaka Chatora was tied for 15th place individually at 2-over-par. His round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole.
The four-round tournament continues through Friday.
