Softball shuts down Ranger
Coyotes travel to Ranger and deliver a two game sweep
The Weatherford College softball team played a double-header at Ron Butler Field on the campus of Ranger College on Wednesday. The Coyotes shutout the Rangers 12-0 in game one and claimed a 9-1 victory in game two.
Sarah Hanf started for WC in the pitcher's circle, striking out 7 of the 14 batters she faced, and only allowed one hit. Addison Brown came in as relief, collecting two strikeouts of her own.
With two outs and an 0-2 count in the top of the fourth, right fielder Alex Graham hit a two-run blast deep out to center field, bringing the score up from four to six. Following Graham in stride, Joni Jackson hit a back-to-back solo home run to center. The Coyotes went on to bring in a total of five runs in the fourth.
Andrea Thompson hit a two RBI triple to increase the gap in the top of the fifth, ultimately leading to another five-run inning and the win.
Kamryn Mears started game two for the black and gold, collecting three strikeouts and allowed only one run on three hits.
Jackson led game two on offense, bringing in three runners, followed by Graham who recorded two RBI, alongside Karlie Landrum who also brought in two.
The Coyotes stand with a record of 19-7 overall, with a 3-3 record in conference play. They will finish their series with Ranger at Stuart Field on Saturday March 21, with the first pitch beginning at 12 p.m.
