WC softball winning streak at 8 games
Coyotes outscore Hill 20-11 across two games, with Hanf picking up both wins and multiple players going deep
The Weatherford College softball team ran its winning streak to eight games on Saturday, completing a four-game sweep of Hill College with an explosive softball doubleheader at Stuart Field.
No. 23 Weatherford powered past Hill 9-1 in the opener before rallying from an early deficit to claim an 11-10 win in Game 2.
In the first game, the Coyotes struck early and never let up. Weatherford plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised behind a dominant pitching performance from Sarah Hanf, who improved to 9-3 after allowing one run on three hits while striking out 11 in four innings.
Joni Jackson provided the spark at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBI. Jackie Divine, Alex Graham, Karlie Landrum and Aundrea Thompson also homered as part of a 10-hit attack. Landrum added a triple and two RBI, while Divine finished with two RBI.
Kaymie Chandler closed out the contest with a scoreless inning for Weatherford, which committed one error but left no doubt in the five-inning run-rule victory.
The second game featured far more drama.
Hill exploded for 10 runs in the top of the third inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Kasara Brooks, to seize a commanding lead. Weatherford responded immediately, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to swing momentum back in its favor.
Divine delivered a key three-run single during the rally, while Casidy Victorino homered and drove in two runs. Rian Coon, Aofia Noa and Graham each knocked in a run as the Coyotes chipped away and then surged ahead.
Weatherford added runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to secure the one-run victory. Graham went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a triple, while Landrum collected two hits and an RBI. Thompson added two hits, and Divine finished with three RBI.
In the circle, four Weatherford pitchers combined to fend off the Hill offense. Addison Brown provided a critical stretch of relief, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts to steady the game. Hanf earned her second win of the day—and improved to 10-3—by throwing two scoreless innings to close it out.
Hill out-hit Weatherford early but could not hold its advantage, despite Brooks finishing with four RBI and Malaya Gabriel adding a two-run single.
The doubleheader sweep capped a perfect four-game series for the Coyotes and continued their strong push late in the season as they extended their winning streak to eight straight games.
WC improved to 25-7 overall and 9-3 in league play, third in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
To get ahead of the weather, WC has moved its home doubleheader against No. 5 McLennan from Wednesday to Tuesday, March 31. The first game will begin at 5 p.m.
